What does business informatics do? Business informatics is a new profession in demand in modern business! Area of professional activity

The most common entrance exams:

  • Russian language
  • Mathematics (basic level)
  • Social studies is a core subject, at the choice of the university
  • Foreign language - at the choice of the university

Mathematics is a compulsory subject for admission. In this subject, entrance exams are held or the results of the Unified State Exam are taken into account. Additionally, the university offers three subjects for entrance examinations, from which the applicant can choose two that are closest to him. Most often, the choice is made among Russian and English languages, social studies. Some universities may independently choose two additional subjects.

Business informatics represents one of the youngest specialties that today's students are mastering. However, despite its recent appearance, the specialty is characterized by excellent opportunities and prospects, both in terms of training and further professional activities and highly paid positions. This is definitely a new profession that has become necessary in areas where knowledge of the basics of management, economics and information and communication technology (ICT) is required simultaneously. Specialists who have received a diploma in this area are required in all areas of business.

Brief description of the specialty

Specialists who have graduated from a higher educational institution with a bachelor's degree in business informatics can work as employees of a company as part of one of the groups involved in its development, and can also act as managers of various services and systems. This is a specialist who has mastered economic knowledge, as well as in the field of law, management and ICT. He manages issues affecting the design, implementation, analysis and maintenance of CIS.

The specialty involves several areas of training. As a rule, the following profiles are distinguished, which can be found in most universities teaching bachelors of business informatics:

  • Technology Entrepreneurship;
  • Enterprise architecture;
  • Content management;
  • Electronic business.

Large universities in Moscow

  • National Research Technological University "MISiS"
  • Odintsovo Humanitarian University
  • Eurasian Open Institute
  • Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy

Terms and forms of training

The specialty involves several forms of training. The most common form of study is full-time, which is offered by most universities. The duration of mastering the specialty in this case is 4 years. When choosing part-time, part-time or part-time forms of study or part-time weekend study, the duration of study increases to 5 years.

Some educational institutions accept applicants who have completed their studies at colleges and technical schools in this field. In this case, full-time training lasts 3 years, and in other cases - 3.5 years.

Subjects studied by students

In the first years, most of the subjects studied by students fall into the category of natural science disciplines, and also provide basic training in the field of information technology:

  • information systems (IS) design,
  • architecture,
  • Informatics,
  • OS,
  • Database,
  • programming,
  • applied computer science in economics and others.

In the first years, great importance is also given to the disciplines of general mathematics, economics and the humanities:

  • mathematical logic,
  • linear algebra,
  • economic theory,
  • Discrete Math,
  • mathematical analysis,
  • network economy,
  • financial Accounting,
  • Probability theory,
  • sociology,
  • psychology and others.

In the last two years of study, the course includes special disciplines that are closest to the specialty and allow you to gain the knowledge necessary specifically for specialists in this field of study. Among these disciplines the following can be noted:

  • logistics,
  • Information Security,
  • personnel Management,
  • econometrics,
  • architecture of corporate information systems (CIS),
  • legal informatics and others.

Training: acquired knowledge and skills

In the first years of study, students receive mainly theoretical knowledge and skills. This is an introduction to the techniques necessary to prepare an organization (enterprise) for automation, related to the design, implementation of IS, the operation of ICT services, as well as the management, development and use of IS. Next comes practical work, which is expressed in trainings conducted to teach students to work with a variety of tools and systems (MS Project, MathCad, Delphi and others), i.e. do what was originally studied in theory.

Future profession: what to work for?

Today, the labor market is in great need of business informatics specialists. About ten thousand jobs in our country are waiting for university graduates every year to provide them with lucrative positions, and every year there is an acute shortage of such specialists. In addition, bachelors can try to find work in foreign countries, where specialists in this profile are also needed. First of all, we are talking about the countries participating in the Bologna Declaration, but not only.

Jobs can be found in all ICT related fields. These are any public and private enterprises, NGOs, OJSCs and CJSCs, scientific design and engineering organizations, bodies involved in social work and any other enterprises that require specialists with the acquired knowledge.

A bachelor's degree in business informatics can hold positions such as programmer, department specialist, or IT department manager.

Continuing training in the specialty

Many higher education institutions offer graduates who have completed a bachelor's degree in business informatics to continue their studies in a master's degree.

If we talk about bachelor's degrees, then

What is business informatics?
It seems that BI is a mixture of computer science, economics and management, and how exactly the mixing occurs is decided by the university. In some places the emphasis is on management, in others on economic theory, in others on economic math, etc. If you need a specific conversation, then I think that there is no particular point in talking about Russian BI, but we need to talk about BI in a specific university.
If there are graduates of a similar field here: please speak about education and work
2 of my acquaintances, bachelor's degree students, studied with an in-depth understanding of economic theory; over beer they like to chat not only about IT topics like nosql or gpgpu, but also about economic topics like hedge funds or GDP. They are individual entrepreneurs, using the labor of freelancers, making websites on RoR (they didn’t study rails at university) for their clients, and coming up with their own project.
Each university interprets it differently, and different websites interpret it differently.
To avoid getting confused by tricky interpretations, there is a simple life hack. To quickly find out what exactly is taught in BI (or any other specialty) at a certain university, you need to look at 1) questions for the state students on BI at this university (if there are none, then it’s most likely impossible to quickly find out what they teach there) and 2) topics of diploma works of graduates of previous years. Ideally, you need to watch presentations from thesis defenses, this will clearly show what is practically taught here. Many universities do not post presentations on the Internet, but they are usually stored on the department’s internal file dump. If you ask about graduate presentations on an open day or simply contact the department, they will send you these presentations, if they exist.

Let's try to quickly find the difference in the preparation of bachelors of BI using the example of state government programs using the first two results that Google gave me
final exam in SibGUTI 2011 - mmbp.sibsutis.ru/docs/Programma_gos_bi.doc ‎
final exam at SUSU 2011 - is.susu.ac.ru/download/diplom/questuion_bi.pdf ‎

In SibGUTI all questions are divided into the following 6 subsections
1. Programming
2. Databases
3. Economic and mathematical models and methods
4. Information systems and technologies
5. Modeling and analysis of business processes
6. Design and architecture of corporate information systems

At SUSU all questions are divided into the following 7 subsections
1. Computer science and programming
2. Business process reengineering
3. Databases
4. Information systems design
5. Strategic management
6. Personnel management
7. Data storage

Everything is approximately the same, the main choice in this case is between “Economic and mathematical models and methods” at SibGUTI and “Strategic Management” + “Human Resources Management” at SUSU.

Hello, dear readers of the Anatomy of Business project! Webmaster Alexander is with you, as always. As you know, I am very skeptical about the higher education system, and if it were up to me, I would not go to get a higher education degree now. But it so happened that 5 years of my life were donated to the institute!

Surprisingly, we live in truly revolutionary times, a time of high technology and communications, a time when old standards and stereotypes are being broken, and they are being replaced by newer and more advanced ways of achieving our goals. As the world changes, the business world also changes. The labor market is no longer in demand for economists and lawyers, as was the case ten years ago, but for IT specialists, professional designers, testers, website and portal designers, system administrators and computer technicians. New areas are emerging in the training of young specialists, including business informatics. And despite all my skepticism, I could not help but notice this specialty because... It is precisely this that is a new trend that gives hope that not all is lost.

What is business informatics now?

Many who come across this concept for the first time ask the same question: “What is business informatics?” , and what are the advantages of it? If you look at Wikipedia, you can find a simple and fairly understandable definition. Business informatics is a science that focuses on the design, development and application of information and communication systems in business. This is a combination of economics, computer science, management and business, which allows young professionals to keep up with the times and apply their acquired knowledge in the field of information technology.

Why is business informatics so popular?

One of the reasons why I have high hopes for this subject is that it has appeared relatively recently in domestic universities, and this gives hope that talented teachers who actually have experience in business will be attracted. And not bearded professors who only know about business from textbooks! Recently, many have happily begun to comprehend the basics of such an interesting and promising science. But why is she so popular? What opportunities does it provide? business Informatics? There are reviews online from those who have already received education in this area, and they note that the combination of economics, management, computer science and business helps them create both their own projects on the Internet and develop promising concepts for customers. Believe me, a well-thought-out idea that has potential can be very expensive.

But why work for someone, giving away your labor and knowledge? The big money is earned not by those who join a hiring company, but by those who create this company. You have all the opportunities, all the tools to start your own business today. "Which?" - many readers will ask. It would take a long time to list all the promising opportunities that exist at the moment, but I will only recommend what I myself am well versed in.

Firstly, you can make good money on social networks. It's no secret that large groups and public pages are excellent at converting the number of subscribers into real money. This is done both through advertising and thanks to a percentage of the profit when selling physical goods through partner sites. How much can you earn from this? You will find the answers in my previous articles and I would like to note that both articles were written based on personal experience. By the way, it is thanks to social networks that I can afford to travel a lot around the world.

The second way to earn money is by creating your own projects and websites. Business informatics teaches people to think critically and apply the acquired knowledge to implement interesting projects. So let's start implementing it now, without putting it off for a long time. Don’t be afraid to start your own business, don’t be afraid to take risks and invest in your own website. Perhaps working “for someone else” is more stable, it always exists, it doesn’t scare you as much as your own project. But is this stability so important, is it as “stable” as it seems? You can spend your whole life giving your knowledge and ideas to someone, bringing your “uncle” millions, while receiving pennies of a monthly salary. Don’t be afraid, create your own projects, promote your websites, and I will be happy to help you with this. To begin with, I advise you to read two interesting articles: and. The first article talks about the real experience of a young mother from St. Petersburg who created her own business on the Internet. And the second article will help you understand how you can start your own business on the Internet without huge investments. Everything is real, you just have to start!

The third way of earning money is directly related to the second. You can create your projects on the Internet, but focus not on selling physical goods, but on advertising revenue. This is a more complex, but long-lasting way to generate passive income. I want to say that nothing is impossible here either. I have already started writing a series of articles on the creation, promotion and development of my own websites, which in the near future will begin to bring their founders the first thousand rubles.

As you can see, business Informatics involves obtaining quite promising knowledge, but I advise you to use this knowledge to implement your own ideas and projects. If there is something you don’t understand, or if you are ready to start your own business on the Internet, then ask for help - I will definitely advise you and give practical advice.

What subjects are studied in the specialty "Business Informatics"?

In addition to general education subjects such as philosophy, foreign language and other humanities, which are usually taught in domestic universities in the first and second year, future specialists in the field of Business Informatics study such sciences as:

  • Microeconomics
  • Macroeconomics
  • Mathematical analysis
  • Linear algebra

Also, for a deeper understanding of the specialty, I recommend watching this video:

Judging by the above subjects, the specialty “Business Informatics” prepares managers of the highest category who can effectively promote business through modern electronic communications.

Where can I study for a degree in Business Informatics?

It can be immediately noted that, as a rule, this specialty is trained in higher educational institutions, which previously specialized in training programmers and economists.
Among the most popular are the following:

Higher School of Economics (National Research University):

National Research Technological University "MISiS":

St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics:

Also, on the basis of the Faculty of Economics of St. Petersburg State University there is a bachelor’s training program in the specialty “Business Informatics”:

In conclusion, I would like to say that if you decide to get a higher education in business, first of all ask the university representatives: what percentage of the teaching staff in your specialty have their own business? If there is no answer to this question or the numbers announced are extremely small, you risk receiving only outdated theoretical knowledge in the learning process, and not the real experience of business practitioners.
Good luck to you in business!

As an applicant, I wanted to enroll and study a specialty with which in the future I could start a career in the field of information technology. Plus, at the time of admission, VolSU was and remains now the only university in the city in the classical sense of this type of educational institution. Therefore, the choice fell on VolSU.

During my studies, the university left only positive memories and a certain amount of basic knowledge and skills that served as the basis for further professional development.

Why was preference given to the specialty “business informatics” upon admission? Are you satisfied with your choice?

The field of training business informatics is a modern specialty in the field of information technology, so the choice was made in its favor. I am completely satisfied with my choice and wish the department in the future to place greater emphasis on the applied aspect in the study of modern information technologies.

If the applicant makes an informed choice when enrolling, then studying will be a pleasure and there will be no question of difficulty. Due to the versatility of the subjects, every day of training will be interesting.

In my opinion, the main thing I learned at university was to study. This skill is the most critical in the IT field. Without constant self-education, knowledge and skills depreciate within a very short cycle. The Department of PIiMME provided basic knowledge and concepts of system analysis, economic subject area, database design, and domestic business applications.

Do not follow the mass choice, do not choose a profession only because of the desire to study with school friends or because of the difficulty of studying. I advise you to choose the direction of study based on your own preferences and hobbies. Daily interest in what you do is the key to future success and overcoming all difficulties.

The field of study “Business Informatics” is suitable for a “universal” applicant who balances the knowledge and qualities of a humanist, and demonstrates the ability to understand the exact sciences, as well as IT technologies. In case of preponderance of interests in one of the parties, the corresponding areas of training should be considered.

Why did you choose the specialty “Business Informatics” during admission? Are you satisfied with your choice?

To be honest, I had no idea after school what I wanted to work with. I chose this specialty because it provides quite broad knowledge: IT, management, analytics. After finishing my studies, with a more conscious look, I chose the area in which I wanted to work and develop.

How complex/interesting/exhaustive can training in this area be considered?

Already now I can appreciate how useful it was, although during training it is always difficult to draw such conclusions, since I was not faced with the tasks that I currently have. As a result, I can safely say that I shouldn’t have paid due attention to some subjects - I’m catching up now.

Despite the fact that for the first three years after graduating from university, I practically did not apply my knowledge. Now I only use them: analytics, project management, enterprise economics.

Set yourself challenging tasks and do the impossible. You can do anything, the main thing is to believe in it.

Who should take the Business Informatics major?

It's worth going to for anyone who wants to be an IT manager. For those who have not yet decided what exactly they want to do. Education will provide a wide range of knowledge that can be applied in many areas.

After two years of studying at the university, I decided on the areas that attract me and formed for myself an approximate list of professions that are interesting to me. Subsequently, every year this list was reduced and by the end of my studies I clearly knew who I wanted to work with.

I use most of the knowledge I acquired in my profession; the foundation I received at the university allows me to more easily navigate new information; economics and mathematics helped me develop analytical skills, without which my work would be impossible.

Try to identify your strengths, weaknesses and interests for finishing school and go in the direction that really interests you. Any person, if he really loves his job, will achieve success regardless of whether his degree is in a prestigious field or not. Why VolSU and what impression did the university leave during your studies?

In my opinion, VolSU is a prestigious and best university in Volgograd, capable of providing all the necessary knowledge and development opportunities. Only the best impressions remained. During my studies, I made many good friends, learned a lot of new things, and realized my plans.

Why was preference given to the field of training “business informatics” during admission? Are you satisfied with your choice?

At school I felt a great attraction to computer science, however, I did not attach much importance to it and by the end of 11th grade I was choosing between a manager and a programmer. I couldn't get into programmer because the passing grades didn't allow me to pass. As a result, I chose a middle course between economics and computer science and entered the Business Informatics major. Yes, I am satisfied with my choice and do not regret that I did not choose some other direction.

How complex/interesting/exhaustive can training in this area be considered?

Studying in the field of “Business Informatics” actually looks very simple if you have a thirst for knowledge and a passion for the process of learning new things. Most disciplines are accompanied by practical assignments and laboratory work, which play a big role in consolidating the theory. There were, of course, complex disciplines that required more effort to study.

What opportunities does studying at VolSU, in general, and the Department of Applied Informatics and Mathematical Methods in Economics, in particular, provide for realizing personal and professional goals?

At VolSU you can find many friends, gain useful skills and experience for further development and getting a job. As you study, you will be able to take part in various seminars, participate in scientific conferences and work on your own projects that you can implement.

The department has a friendly and good staff of teachers who will provide not only basic knowledge and skills, but also show the way for development and give advice in difficult situations.

How did you imagine your future profession? Did you find the knowledge you gained useful?

I imagined my future profession as complex, responsible and important. The knowledge gained was very useful when finding a job, but, of course, not all of it. Without the theoretical basis that is given at the university, it is very difficult to work. Many of the subjects I studied that I thought were unnecessary ended up being useful, and I believe that no matter what knowledge is, it will always come in handy.

In my opinion, choosing a profession is a very important point that you need to stop and think about for at least a year or two, otherwise, otherwise, you will not be interested in studying and you will waste your time. If you can’t decide where to go or what to choose, think about what you’re best at doing, what you want to do, what you have the ability to do, or what your loved ones advise you to do. There is no need to be afraid of the unknown, in which case you are only limiting yourself in your capabilities. To make your choice, google reviews, look at the training program in this area, read which disciplines are included in the standard of study for this area and determine how interesting they are to you.

Who should take the Business Informatics major?

I consider this direction to be universal and I advise those who are interested in programming, website creation, management, business management, analytics, etc. to go there. This direction has prospects in the fields of computer science, management, economics or business management.

Why was preference given to the field of study “Business Informatics” upon admission? Are you satisfied with your choice?

Flexibility in choosing a future specialty: you can become either a manager or directly engage in IP development.

How complex/interesting/exhaustive can training in this area be considered?

The path to a diploma cannot be called thorny. It’s only difficult at first and only because you’re not used to it. But when you get the hang of it, almost every item seems interesting. And when preparing coursework and scientific papers, you can discover comprehensive knowledge on your favorite subjects. There are many interesting practical tasks: working with files, databases, data directly, different programming languages - you won’t get bored with it.

What opportunities does studying at VolSU provide for realizing personal and professional goals?

After completing your studies, you still have many friends and acquaintances with whom you can realize any personal and professional goals.

How did you imagine your future profession? Did you find the knowledge you gained useful?

Every day, get up early in the morning and drive 2 hours to the office to do monotonous, monotonous work day after day. No! I never imagined this. My future profession seemed to me to be in comfortable conditions, prestigious, responsible and with the opportunity for self-realization.

Can you handle the task? Get over it. Can not? Divide it into small tasks and deal with them one by one. It is important to take the first step and then not stop at all the subsequent ones.
